Car Driving Test Information

During the test you can make up to 15 driver errors.

If you make 16 driver errors or any one serious or

dangerous error you will not pass.

Your Examiner will use a DL25 Driving Test Report

to record your errors in different categories.

What will a car driving test include?

The test will include an eyesight test (if you fail this, your test will not continue).

You will be asked two safety check questions, also known as Show me Tell Me driving test questions.

Car Safety Check Questions

After the eyesight test and safety check questions you will be examined on your general driving

and on two reversing exercises.

The reversing exercises will be chosen from:

* turning in the road
* reversing around a corner
* reverse parking (on road or in a car park, where available)

You may also be asked to carry out an emergency stop exercise.

A standard driving test takes about 40 minutes.

The DSA top ten reasons why people fail are:
Observation at junctions - ineffective observation and judgement
Reverse parking - ineffective observation or a lack of accuracy
Use of mirrors - not checking or not acting on the information
Reversing around a corner - ineffective observation or a lack of accuracy
Incorrect use of signals - not canceling or giving misleading signals
Moving away safely - ineffective observation
Incorrect positioning on the road - at roundabouts or on bends
Lack of steering control - steering too early or leaving it too late
Incorrect positioning to turn right - at junctions and in one way streets
Inappropriate speed - traveling too slowly or being hesitant

Top ten reasons based on twelve months to January 2004
